Dance Class Dress Code

A polished, modest look to match our studio standards. Review the required attire for each class type below.

Acro & Tumbling

Girls

  • Leotard and tights (stirrup, footless, or convertible) of any color.
  • Shorts or leggings may be worn over the leotard, but tights are required.
  • Dancers are barefoot.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Dancers are barefoot.

Ballet 1–5 & Pre-Ballet

Girls

  • Black leotard.
  • Pink tights.
  • Pink ballet shoes.
  • Hair secured neatly in a bun.

Shoe reference: Bloch S0625L (or similar — generic brands acceptable if color and style match)

Boys

  • Black fitted shorts or jazz pants.
  • White fitted t-shirt tucked in.
  • Black ballet shoes with white socks.

Applies to levels Pre-Ballet through Ballet 5.

Students not dressed in proper ballet attire will not be permitted into class.

Broadway Heels

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Skirts, leggings, or shorts may be worn over the leotard.
  • Tan 1.5" character heels required.

Shoe reference: Bloch S0379 Tan or Capezio 550 Tan (similar styles acceptable if colors match)

Hip-Hop / Funk

Girls

  • Yoga pants or sweatpants and a t-shirt.
  • No midriffs allowed.
  • Black sneakers (only available at MSDA).

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.

Jazz

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Skirts, leggings, or shorts may be worn over the leotard.
  • Tan eclipse jazz shoes.

Boys

  • Jazz pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Tan eclipse jazz shoes.

Shoes available for purchase in the office.

Generic brands acceptable as long as color and style match.

Leaps & Turns

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Shorts or leggings may be worn over the leotard.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.

Lyrical / Contemporary

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Shorts, leggings, or a skirt may be worn over the leotard.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.

Modern

Girls

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Dancers are barefoot.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Dancers are barefoot.

Mommy & Me

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Skirts or shorts may be worn over the leotard.
  • Pink ballet shoes.

Boys

  • Jazz pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Black ballet shoes.

Moms wear comfortable clothing.

Musical Theater

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Skirts or shorts may be worn over the leotard.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.

Pom

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Shorts or skirt may be worn over the leotard.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.

Pointe & Pre-Pointe

Girls

  • Black leotard and pink tights.
  • Skirts may be worn.
  • Hair should be secured neatly in a bun.

For pointe shoes: please check with your instructor for shoe recommendations based on your foot shape and level.

Students not dressed in proper ballet attire will not be permitted into class.

Tap

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color with a skirt or shorts, OR jazz pants and a t-shirt.
  • Ages 6+: Tan lace tap shoes.
  • Ages 2.5–6.5: Tan velcro tap shoes.

Boys

  • Athletic shorts or pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Black tap shoes (tie-up).

Shoes are required for class and the recital.

Tap & Ballet Combo

Girls

  • Leotard and tights of any color.
  • Skirts or shorts may be worn over the leotard.
  • Pink ballet shoes and tan tap shoes.

Boys

  • Jazz pants and a t-shirt of any color.
  • Black ballet shoes and black tap shoes (velcro or tie).

General Reminders

  • Proper dress code attire is required for ALL classes. Students not dressed correctly may not be permitted into class.

  • Hair should be pulled back and secured for all dance classes.

  • Shoes are required for the recital in all classes that require them for regular sessions.

  • Dance shoes are available for purchase at the MSDA office for select styles.

  • If you have questions about attire, contact the office before your dancer's first class.
